MVHS Purpose

At Moapa Valley High School, our purpose is to create educated citizens, help students develop their own capacities for personal achievement, and foster the skills and desire for continuous learning. Commitment to this purpose focuses our staff on empowering students to become accountable, creative and self-aware.

Moapa Valley High School is set in a small, rural community where students and teachers interact both in and out of school. A large proportion of our students are involved in sports and extracurricular activities, thus providing even more opportunities for supportive, respectful relationships between students and teachers. Our teachers are charged with connecting positively with our students to promote the emotional and social well-being of each child, to encourage creativity, and to improve student achievement in academic coursework. These relationships, together with a challenging core curriculum and a variety of elective classes, help us provide an outstanding educational experience for all students.

As our school entered into the process for accreditation review, our staff met and discussed the school’s purpose and focus. The staff agreed the purpose would recognize that students reach their individual potential in different ways, but was not ready to abandon our mission of the last five years.  Our school remains committed to the following mission:

The Moapa Valley High School community prepares students for post-secondary education, careers of their choice and to excel as productive, responsible citizens.

Ultimately, we intend to facilitate a learning environment conducive to individual student growth and personal achievement. We believe that helping students find a balance between academic achievement and physical, emotional, and social well-being will result in productive, confident, well-rounded adults. As with most schools, our beliefs lie upon core values of excellence and achievements for ALL students.

WE believe…

  • All students are capable of being prepared to succeed in post-secondary education
  • Students learn best when they are actively engaged in the learning process
  • Everyone shares the responsibility for preparing and shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
  • Students are best served when the school and community share a common vision and are committed to open communication, mutual respect, and collaboration
  • Higher education is a valuable asset that improves a person’s quality of life
  • Each student has a unique path to his/her potential
  • Students can succeed regardless of their background or circumstances
  • Self-respect is built upon achievement and integrity
  • A safe and inclusive environment for students, faculty and staff fosters respect toward learning, self, and others

At Moapa Valley High School students are nurtured to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to determine their own futures. We strive to create a caring, supportive and safe school climate where students will support each other as they push themselves to grow and learn.
